叫《Small Basil at the Art Basel》(中文可以翻译成:艺术巴塞尔上的小菜叶)

Zackary Drucker and Rhys Ernst Relationship #38, 2008-2013

The art world today is like a fuzzy feast, made up by the mixed ingredients of high and low, but delicious enough to feed the world’s fifthly rich, even the smell of it could make wannabes eager and hungry. All those stunning, exquisite and sublimes are eaten up by the big players, but the art market could be soon filled up with new “desirables” by the same crowd of trend setters, movers, makers.

Sylvie Fleury The Only Good System is a Sound System, 2014

The top tier of the art world has never lost its attraction but hardly accepted anyone who does not have the connection. Gallery girls and boys fighting at the bottoms or artists who try to get their works noticed by galleries, are like the “small basil” who add up flavors to the fuzzy feast, they play the roles of the unimportant, yet significant, something that make you getting addicted without being poisoned.

Elad Lassry Melocco, 2009

“Small basils” at the feast of Art Basel, looking at unaffordable art, consuming affordable gossips, and drinking free champagne.

Dina Goldstein Passed out, 2012

These “small basils” earn a thing salary in these billion dollars industry (sometimes below the national minimum wage), hang around (not that they want to) with VIP-wannabes dodgy art dealers, sometimes-can-be-mental artists (call them “eccentric” for being nice!), and ugly free loads who are obviously suffer from mid-life crisis and hang around at exhibition previews because they don’t have dinner dates with either a wife or a lover. It’s a female dominated world, male execute the real power. If you deny the fact that there are many gay work in the commercial art world, by given the reason that they all look pretty straight in their shining suits, you should definitely go check out the way those male gallerinas dance at the Art Basel after party.

Dina Goldstein Breakfast, 2012

Perhaps, it is the quality art which signified class and sophistication attract the money, but the quality basils asan ingredient, in addition, make the art world more alluring!

One day some of us will quit, some of us will climb to the top and become the sharks, remember to look back but never look down, and always be nice to those newly added fresh “basils” who just started going to the Art Basel. 🙂

Elad Lassry Untitled (Woman in Dress B), 2016
